Embark on a remarkable 4‑day Amazonian Tour into one of the most biodiverse regions on Earth: the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve in the Ecuadorian Amazon. This tour is ideal for travelers who want a deeper connection with the rainforest—more wildlife, more exploration, and more time to disconnect from the outside world.

From the moment you descend from the Andes into the Amazon basin, the experience becomes immersive. Your motorized canoe ride along the peaceful Cuyabeno River offers the first glimpses of wildlife—monkeys, caimans, sloths and vibrant tropical birds often appear even before you reach the lodge.

Discover the Heart of the Amazon

Our most popular tour offers one of the most immersive ways to experience Ecuador’s Amazon region. Your journey begins as you descend from the Andes into the lush Amazon basin. The final stretch takes place by motorized canoe along the Cuyabeno River — a scenic route where wildlife sightings are common. Keep your camera ready for monkeys, sloths, caimans, and countless tropical birds.

Spend two full days exploring the Cuyabeno Reserve, known for its unique flooded forests, rich biodiversity, and tranquil atmosphere. On the final day, you’ll depart early to ensure a smooth return to Quito.

Amazonian Tour Itinerary

Day 1 – Quito → Lago Agrio → Cuyabeno Lodge

Travel by bus from Quito to Lago Agrio the day before your tour begins (bus fare not included). From Lago Agrio, our private transportation will take you to the park entrance (approx. 2 hours), where you’ll meet your naturalist guide.

From here, a two‑hour canoe journey along the Cuyabeno River brings you deep into the rainforest. Your bilingual guide will introduce you to the region’s flora and fauna — it’s common to spot monkeys, toucans, macaws, and parrots during the ride.

After settling into the lodge, enjoy some time to relax. Later, visit the beautiful Laguna Grande for wildlife watching, a possible encounter with pink river dolphins, a refreshing swim, and a stunning Amazon sunset.

Dinner is served at the lodge, followed by a peaceful night surrounded by the sounds of the jungle.

Day 2 – Rainforest Trek & Flooded Forest Exploration

Wake up to the calls of monkeys and tropical birds. After breakfast, a short canoe ride takes you to a trail within the National Park. Walk through the terra firma forest as your guide explains local wildlife, medicinal plants, ecosystems, and indigenous traditions. Observe fascinating details such as ant colonies, tiny poisonous frogs, rainforest insects, and unique fungi.

After lunch, take a siesta during the warmest hours of the day — relax in a hammock, on the dock, or in your room.

In the afternoon, explore the flooded forest by canoe. Look for monkeys, birdlife, river dolphins, and even anacondas resting in the macrolobium trees covered in lush epiphytes.

After dinner, explore the jungle at night with a flashlight. Spot nocturnal insects such as giant grasshoppers, stick insects, and praying mantises — and if you’re lucky, night monkeys, owls, or other nocturnal mammals.

Day 3 – Indigenous Siona Community & Night Canoe Excursion

After an early breakfast, travel 1.5 hours downstream to visit the Indigenous Siona community. Here, you’ll learn to prepare casabe, a traditional manioc-based flatbread, starting from harvesting the root to cooking it over an open fire.

Your guide will explain the history and daily life of the Siona people and how tourism supports their community.

Return to the lodge for lunch and enjoy another relaxing afternoon swim and sunset at the lake.

After dinner, embark on a special nighttime canoe excursion to search for caimans, snakes, and nocturnal birds. A strong flashlight is essential — caimans are easiest to spot by the reflection of their eyes.

Day 4 – Sunrise Birdwatching & Return

Start the day with early-morning birdwatching at 6:00 am — the best time to see the forest come alive. After sunrise, return to the lodge for your final breakfast.

At 9:30 am, travel by motor canoe back to the park entrance, where our vehicle will take you to Lago Agrio for your connection back to Quito.
