Tour Itinerary

Day 1 – Quito • Cuyabeno

Your adventure begins with a overnight bus ride from Quito to Cuyabeno (not included in the tour price, we can help you to book a private bus transportation Quito – Cuyabeno).  Meeting at the Cuyabeno bridge at 11am.

Upon arrival, visitors are required to register at the Reserve office. During this time, our naturalist guide will provide a brief orientation, sharing key information about the Cuyabeno Reserve, important recommendations, and tips to prepare for the two-hour canoe trip down the Cuyabeno River to your Lodge. Next, you’ll board a canoe for a scenic ride deep into the rainforest. Your bilingual guide will introduce you to the region’s rich plant and animal life. It’s common to see monkeys leaping through the trees and brightly colored birds—toucans, macaws, parrots—flying overhead. Arrival at the Lodge is expected around 1:30 pm.

Upon arrival at the lodge, relax for a moment before heading out to explore the stunning Laguna Grande. With luck, you may spot pink river dolphins gliding near the surface. Enjoy a breathtaking sunset from the canoe and take a refreshing dip in the lake.

After dinner at the lodge, fall asleep to the natural symphony of the jungle.

Day 2 – Forest Walk • Flooded Forest Exploration • Night Walk

Wake up to the calls of birds and monkeys. After breakfast, a short canoe ride takes you to a trail within the National Park. As you walk through terra firme forest, your guide will introduce you to medicinal plants, wildlife behavior, rainforest ecology, and Indigenous traditions.

Look closely—this forest is full of hidden wonders such as intricate ant colonies, tiny poisonous frogs, predatory insects, and extraordinary fungi.

Return to the lodge for lunch and a midday break to relax in your room, hammocks, or by the dock.

In the afternoon, you’ll explore the flooded forest by canoe. Towering macrolobium trees draped in epiphytes create an otherworldly atmosphere. Watch for monkeys, birds, and possibly dolphins or anacondas.

After dinner, take a guided night walk to discover nocturnal insects, giant grasshoppers, mantises, and—if luck is on your side—night monkeys, owls, and small nocturnal mammals.

Day 3 – Siona Community • Cultural Experience • Night Canoe Excursion

After an early breakfast, board the canoe for a 1.5‑hour ride downstream to visit the Siona Indigenous community, one of the groups we support through responsible tourism.

A local woman will guide you in preparing casabe, a traditional manioc bread. Help harvest the manioc from the family’s field and experience the entire process, from peeling to cooking it over an open fire. Your guide will also share insights into Siona culture, history, and daily life.

Return to the lodge for lunch and enjoy a relaxing siesta before swimming or enjoying the lake once again.

After dinner, embark on a nighttime canoe excursion to search for caimans, snakes, and nocturnal birds. A strong flashlight helps spot caimans by the red reflection in their eyes.

Day 4 – Laguna Canangueno • Primary Forest Hike • Farewell Dinner

After breakfast, prepare for a full day of adventure. We provide boots and ponchos for the activities.

Begin with a paddle‑canoe journey to Laguna Canangueno, a fantastic wildlife‑rich area home to monkeys, birds, sloths, and more.

Next, hike for approximately three hours through primary rainforest. Your guide will explain Amazonian flora and fauna, ecological relationships, and the unique natural systems that make this one of the most biodiverse environments on Earth.

Enjoy a box lunch in the middle of the jungle before returning to Laguna Grande for your final swim and sunset in this spectacular setting.

In the evening, share a special farewell dinner at the lodge with your guide, complete with a complimentary cocktail to celebrate your rainforest experience.

Day 5 – Birdwatching • Return to Lago Agrio

Begin the day early with birdwatching at 6:00 a.m.—the best time to observe the rainforest awakening. After enjoying sunrise in the jungle, return to the lodge for a final breakfast together.

Following your sunrise and birdwatching excursion, we will gather at the hotel for a delicious breakfast, giving you time to relax and savor the morning atmosphere while preparing for the day’s next steps.

We will depart from the lodge at 9:30 a.m. and head back to the Cuyabeno bridge. Here, a boxed lunch will be provided, allowing you to enjoy a convenient meal as you travel. Be sure to reserve private transportation to your next destination, whether returning to Quito or transferring to Lago Agrio, to ensure a smooth journey.
