Embark on an unforgettable 3‑day adventure into the heart of the Ecuadorian Amazon. This tour is designed for travelers who want to experience the magic of the rainforest even with limited time.
From the moment you leave the Andean highlands and descend into the lush Amazon basin, the journey becomes part of the experience. The final stretch takes place in a motorized canoe along the serene Cuyabeno River—keep your camera ready, as monkeys, sloths, caimans and colorful birds often greet visitors on their way in.
For two full days you’ll explore the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve, one of the most biodiverse regions on the planet. Discover the flooded forests, spot incredible wildlife and unwind in a peaceful environment far away from city noise. On the final day, you’ll depart early to ensure a smooth return to Quito.
🌿 Daily Program: Cuyabeno 3-Day Rainforest Adventure
Day 1: Quito – Lago Agrio – Cuyabeno
Your adventure begins with a overnight bus ride from Quito to Lago Agrio (not included in the tour price), arriving the morning. From there, our private transport will take you to the entrance of the Cuyabeno Reserve. After meeting your guide, enjoy lunch either at a local restaurant or upon arrival at the lodge—depending on logistics.
Next, you’ll board a canoe for a scenic two‑hour ride deep into the rainforest. Your bilingual guide will introduce you to the region’s rich plant and animal life. It’s common to see monkeys leaping through the trees and brightly colored birds—toucans, macaws, parrots—flying overhead.
Upon arrival at the lodge, relax for a moment before heading out to explore the stunning Laguna Grande. With luck, you may spot pink river dolphins gliding near the surface. Enjoy a breathtaking sunset from the canoe and take a refreshing dip in the lake.
After dinner at the lodge, fall asleep to the natural symphony of the jungle.
Day 2: Exploring the Amazon
Wake up to the sounds of birds and monkeys welcoming a new day. After breakfast, a short canoe ride will take you to a trail where your guide will lead you through the “terra firma” forest. Learn about medicinal plants, jungle ecosystems and the fascinating survival strategies of the rainforest’s wildlife. Look closely—you might spot perfectly organized ant colonies, tiny poisonous frogs or fungi with extraordinary behaviors.
After lunch, enjoy a relaxing siesta in your room, in a hammock or by the dock. Later in the afternoon, you’ll continue exploring by canoe, gliding through the flooded forest beneath macrolobium trees draped in epiphytes. Keep an eye out for monkeys, birds, dolphins and—if you’re lucky—anacondas.
After dinner, grab your flashlight and venture into the primary forest for a night walk. The jungle comes alive after dark: giant grasshoppers, stick insects, praying mantises and a variety of nocturnal animals such as night monkeys and owls may appear under the beam of your light.
Day 3: Birdwatching & Return
Begin the day early with birdwatching at 6:00 a.m.—the best time to observe the rainforest awakening. After enjoying sunrise in the jungle, return to the lodge for a final breakfast together.
At 9:30 a.m., you’ll depart by motor canoe back to the park entrance, where our private transportation awaits to take you to Lago Agrio. From there, you can continue to Quito by bus or private transfer.
