Our 3 days Amazonian jungle adventure tour offers you the perfect way to explore the Ecuadorian Amazon region if you are in a hurry. Travelling to the lodge is already an adventure, as you leave the summits of the Andes behind and enter to the Amazon basin. During the last part of the trip, a motorized canoe takes you along the Cuyabeno River through the rainforest. Be sure to have your camera ready, chances are you will already see some animals like monkeys, sloths, caimans, and of course different birds.
Spend two entire days exploring the Cuyabeno Reserve with its unique ecosystem of the flooded forest, looking for wildlife, and enjoying the calm. On the last day you leave the lodge early, so that you can travel back to Quito on the same day.
DAILY PROGRAM FOR THE CUYABENO 3 DAYS RAINFOREST ADVENTURE
Day 1: Quito – Lago Agrio – Cuyabeno
Travel by bus from Quito to Lago Agrio leaving the day before your tour starts (the bus is not included for the tour price). From Lago Agrio our private transportation will take you to the park entrance (distance 100 Kms / 62 miles, travel time approx. 2 hours) where you will meet your guide. Depending on logistics we will either have lunch here in a local restaurant, or once you arrive at the lodge.
We will first travel by canoe along the Cuyabeno River to the lodge (approximately two hours). During our travel to the lodge your bilingual guide will explain you about the local flora and fauna. During the travel it is common to see monkeys as well as tropical birds for example toucans, macaws, and parrots.
After the arrival to the Lodge you will have some time to relax. Later that day we go to explore the beautiful Laguna Grande. If we are lucky we will have a chance to spot some pink river dolphins. You can enjoy the sunset from the canoe and go for a refreshing swim in the lake,
Dinner at the lodge. Fall asleep surrounded by the relaxing sounds of the jungle.
Day 2
Monkeys or birds will probably wake you up in the morning. After breakfast, a short canoe ride takes you to one of the trails in the National Park. Walkthrough the “terra firma forest” and listen to your guide explaining the wildlife, medicinal forest plants, the forest ecosystem and indigenous life. As you’re getting a close look at the jungle, pay attention to the small details you might see: different species of ants that have perfected the organization of their colonies, tiny poisonous frogs hiding under the leaves, insects on the hunt for their next meal, or fungi that take over and kill small organisms like insects or spiders. All of our guides are experts and will happily answer any question you might have.
After lunch, we recommend a siesta during the hottest part of the day. You can relax in your room, in the hammocks, or on the dock. Later in the afternoon, you will explore more flooded parts of the forest by canoe. The fascinating macrolobium trees covered with abundant epiphytes are the most typical plant of this area. Try to spot monkeys and birds, and also look for dolphins or anacondas.
After dinner, get your flashlight out and walk through primary forest, looking for insects like giant grasshoppers, stick insect, praying mantis and others that come out at night and are fascinating to see from up close. If you’re lucky (and quiet) you might see some of the other nocturnal jungle animals, like night monkeys, owls, and different kinds of rodents.
Day 3
We will go for an early bird watching at 6am. The birds are most active during the morning and this is the best time to see them active and waking up with the jungle. After the sunrise we will return to the lodge for our last breakfast together. Departure from the Lodge is at 9:30am. We will travel by motor canoe to the park entrance. Our vehicle will take you back to Lago Agrio which is the end location of our tour. Return to Quito either by bus or private transportation.
